They can, and do, but the surprise is merited, for the influence and reputation of these works far outstrips their quantity (and how often can one say that of a Barock composer!). On display here is the apogee of Barock form as displayed in the genres of Solo Sonatas, Trio Sonatas and Concerti Grossi, full of sparkling virtuosity and an intimate knowledge and love of the violin and its potential as a solo instrument. The influence was felt most immediately in Rome, where he was based for his adult life, but publication of these collections soon earned him a name across Europe, as much as his prowess as a solo violinist did; for this was the golden age of the composer as creator, when composition went hand in hand with performance. Of course there is plenty more music Corelli composed which hasn’t survived, or at least not on manuscripts with his name on them, for Corelli as an impresario frequently staged oratorios to which he would have contributed sinfonias and instrumental numbers. What survives is never less than highly polished; often bold, and continually inventive, as is more than evident in these performances from a welcome and uniform perspective by a leading Dutch period-instrument ensemble. And it’s unique; there is no other Corelli box on the market, nor has such a project ever been attempted before or since. Tracklist: Trio Sonatas OP.1: 00:00:00 Sonata No.1 in F: I. The Concerto in D Major, Op. 6 No. 4, of Arcangelo Corelli, performed on original instruments by the Early Music ensemble Voices of Music. 0:00 Adagio 0:21 Allegro 3:29 Adagio 5:04 Vivace 6:08 Allegro & Coda Please subscribe to our channel 🤍 300 years ago, Corelli's concertos, Op. 6, were published in 1714 in Amsterdam: these works dramatically affected the style of the baroque concerto for the next generation of composers. The reception of this magnificent collection, one of the crown jewels of baroque instrumental music, is in no small part due to the music publishing boom which began around 1690, as well as Corelli's signature set of violin sonatas, Opus 5, of which as Michael Talbot notes "at least 42 editions had appeared by 1800". The wide availability of Corelli's works created an international Corellian style. The concertos are written in an expanded trio sonata style, in which the two solo violins and cello form a small ensemble within the larger tutti framework. The fourth concerto is noteworthy for its suave and serene introduction, the gracefulness of the dance movement, the exceptionally well-balanced counterpoint and harmony, and the furious concluding coda which flows out of the second ending of the last movement. HD Video from the Voices of Music Lamentations of Jeremiah concert, April, 2014. In the year 1702, the Avvisi di Roma noted that for a performance during Holy Week of Scarlatti's Lamentations, the orchestra also played "a superb concerto for basses, violones, violins and violas of Arcangelo" (Griffin, The Late Baroque Serenata). For the 300th anniversary of Corelli's concertos, we will be releasing on video selections from Corelli's Opus 6 as well as Handel's Opus 6. Tracklist below. Spotify: 🤍 Physical sale: 🤍 iTunes: 🤍 Composer: Arcangelo Corelli Artist: Musica Amphion, Pieter-Jan Belder (conductor) Arcangelo Corelli (1653–1713) was nothing less than a musical pioneer, a champion of the violin’s potential as a solo instrument and an immense influence on the composers who followed him, J.S. Bach and Handel included. As a virtuoso violinist, he wielded an unprecedented level of skill; as a composer, he was enormously popular throughout Europe. Although the Italian composer’s legacy has been somewhat overshadowed in modern times, the 12 Concerti Grossi that comprise this recording are thoroughly worthy of rediscovery, and earned Corelli the description of ‘father of the concerto grosso’. Indeed, he was one of the first composers to use the term, and established many of the genre’s recognisable features. The mixture of concerti da chiesa (church concertos, which alternate slow and fast tempi) and concerti da camera (chamber concertos, similar to the dance suite) demonstrates the imagination, innovation and versatility that his fellow composers so admired. Although the vast popularity that Corelli enjoyed in his lifetime may have declined over the centuries, the influence of his 12 Concerti Grossi is undeniable, and can be felt in later concertos by composers like Geminiani and Vivaldi, not to mention Handel’s majestic Concerti Grossi Op.6. Drawn from Brilliant Classics’ criticallyacclaimed edition of Corelli’s complete works, there is much for listeners to discover and enjoy in these recordings, which feature outstanding readings by a leading period-instrument ensemble, Musica Amphion, led from the harpsichord by Pieter-Jan Belder. Corelli is best known for this work. He gave this genre an enormous boost and was an example for composers like Handel. This complete set of 12 lively concerti is played by the Dutch ensemble Musica Amphion on period instruments. Its founder Pieter-Jan Belder conducts from the harpsichord. 00:00:00 Trio Sonatas OP.3 1-12 01:20:28 Trio Sonatas OP.4 NOS 1-12 02:40:36 Trio Sonatas WoO 9-10 Full Tracklist in the comment section

Hey everyone~! Please consider a donation, 🤍 and we will make more videos like this one :) We need your help! The Concerto in F Major Op. 6 No. 2 by Arcangelo Corelli, complete. Performed on original instruments by the early music ensemble Voices of Music. 4K UHD video from the Steffani Stabat Mater concert, March 2015, San Francisco. 300 years ago, Corelli's concertos, Op. 6, were published in 1714 in Amsterdam: these works dramatically affected the style of the baroque concerto for the next generation of composers. The reception of this magnificent collection, one of the crown jewels of baroque instrumental music, was in no small part due to the music publishing boom which began around 1690, as well as Corelli's signature set of violin sonatas, Opus 5, of which as Michael Talbot notes "at least 42 editions had appeared by 1800". The wide availability of Corelli's works created an international Corellian style. The concertos are written in an expanded trio sonata form, in which the two solo violins and continuo provide the core ensemble within the larger tutti framework. Corelli composed his concerto in F Major without the usual three or four sections, but twelve sections (many of which are asymmetrical); two of these twelve are simply cadence markers consisting of one or two bars, the the remaining twelve movements are numbered in the video. The work begins with an upbeat flourish which then serves as anchor points for the following imitative sections. The wistful adagios provide an excellent foil to the persistent rhythms of the allegros.

Concerto Grosso No. 4, Opus 6 0:06 Adagio - Allegro 3:49 Adagio 4:42 Vivace 6:00 Allegro 9:16 Allegro Although the earliest published edition of the complete Opus 6 concerti by Corelli appeared in 1714, it is thought that most of the works were composed between 1680-1690. This set of 12 multi-movement concerti became a model for George Frideric Handel's famed Opus 3 and Opus 6 collections also containing 12 concerti grossi each. In Corelli's Opus 6 collection, each concerto is presented as a double duet. There are two dueling concertini violins (accompanied by a concertino cello) juxtaposed against two dueling ripieni violins (accompanied by viola and basso continuo). The original MIDI file, which I rendered using the iPhone app Music Studio 2.0, can be found on Musescore. The original MIDI was generated by Quasi Cantando and can be found at musescore.com.
