Today on The Skid Factory We're Getting That Datsun Difference by checking out Timmy's Vq35 Turbo Powered Datsun Bluebird. Timmy has featured on the show many times helping us out with wiring and showing off his Datsun products from One Six Industries. He has a couple of cool Dattos and since we were doing some work on this one for him we thought we'd show it off before getting stuck into the job. The Current setup consists of a VQ35 bottom end from a Nissan Elgrand with Weisco Pistons and Eagle Conrods mated to VQ30 Cylinder Heads with HKS MLS Gaskets ARP L19 Head studs, VQ35 Kelford Camshafts and Valve Springs. Article: 🤍 In total upwards of 80% of the parts were changed. All the changes of the HR ultimately made it more fuel efficient by upwards of 10% and allowed it to make more power and offer a wider torque band. That being said, the DE definitely isn't a bad engine and at the time the DE came out it was a pretty awesome V6. The only downside to the HR is that it's more expensive to buy one second hand compared to a DE, but that has more to do with perceived value and availability, and it kind of proves that the HR is the more valuable and better engine. Explained Like You're Five | Nissan VQ Engines VQ35DE - VQ37VHR and Everything in between. Please subscribe and help us get 5k Subscriber! Also, check out my store: 🤍 So let's start with the VQ35DE Where VQ is the family name. 35 is the displacement at 3.5L D for dual over head cam and E is for multipoint fuel injection. The DE ranges from 287hp. depending on the vehicle. These engines are found in the 2002 – 2006 Nissan 350Zs and 2003 – 2007 Infiniti G35 These motors are great but suffer from oil consumption problems or in layman's, the car burns off the oil. which is generally only harmful if you don't replace the oil. But in-spite of that, The DE loves bolt ons. Bolt ons include but aren't limited to the air intake, intake plenum, exhaust manifolds, y-pipes, test pipes and exhaust system to unleash the VQ35DE's hidden power. After that you'd need a tune. You can opt for an off the shelf tune or find yourself a tuner. If you're looking into extreme gains, then you can achieve that with forced induction but be warned, you shouldn't attempt this unless your motor has some forged internals other wise you risk blowing up your DE. You may get away with just low boost but you'll need a really good turner if you want reliability. VQ35DE Rev Up This Was an updated version of the original DE motor that increased hp but lost a little torque with it. At 300hp. This motor still consumed a lot of oil. You could find these in the mid year 2005-2006 350Z enthusiast cars and Infiniti G35s. There's a lot of changes inside this motor that'll bore you but The Rev up motor is the best of the two DE motors. VQ35HR This is the engine that you want if you are looking at these cars. It fixed everything that was wrong with the DE. The HR in the engine code actually stands for High Rev or high revolution. I see this as the K series of the VQs. This motor has around 313hp stock and if you wanted to add forced induction, these are the engines to handle it. I'm not gonna say you can't swap these engines for a better one. For example changing your DE for an HR. but I will say; it won't be as easy or cheap as a Honda engine swap. Now let's go to the newer and more popular engine, the VQ37 This engine is used again in a lot of vehicles but we're still talking G37 and 370Z. We can include Q50 and q60 because the 3.7 are in those as well. If you want me to talk more about the VR30, comment down below! VQ37VHR The VQ37 is a naturally aspirated 3.7L V6 which produces 325-350hp depending on the car. When it comes to modification It's up to you on the route you'd like to take being that these motors are pretty bulletproof up to the 600whp range before you'd need to fiddle with the internals. Bolt ons and forced induction is the way to go. This includes exhaust, intakes, fuel injectors…

A 3.51 Litre Nissan VQ35 (350Z Engine) is tested on Auckland, New Zealand's Heat Treatments LTD Engine Dynamometer using Precision Turbochargers and Methanol fuel injected through Injector Dynamics ID2000 Injectors, controlled by a MoTeC Engine Management System calibrated by Shane Tecklenburg (Tuned By Shane T). To achieve this high level of output the Inlet Manifold Pressure is maintained at nearly 35.9 pounds per square inch of pressure above atmospheric .
