At the beginning of May 2023, Russian media shared a flurry of videos from salt mines near Soledar. The videos showcased a captured weapons storage depot said to be inside part of the mine complex which was recently captured by Russian private military contractor unit Wagner. In this video we'll look at the videos to see what weapon systems were captured at the depot. The weapons largely appear to be damaged or obsolescent. An intense battle is raging in Ukraine's eastern town of Soledar. Russia's Wagner mercenary group that has claimed control of the town, has now released a new video. The footage shows the head of Russian president Vladimir Putin's 'secret' Army, Yevgeny Prigozhin, sweeping through the salt mines as fighting continues overhead. The Russian Defence Minister also noted that Russia's airborne units had surrounded Soledar and cornered Volodymyr Zelensky's men for surrender. According to Ukrainian commanders, the Ukrainian Army is advancing in attacks close to the eastern city. Although the fighting has only slightly moved the front line, it has revealed cracks, confusion, and alarm among Russia's military forces involved in the conflict. Attacking targets like weapon caches, command posts, armour, and artillery systems helps shape the battlefield for advancing forces. It's a typical tactic employed before important combined operations. Russian forces were forced to defend themselves against Ukraine, which forced them to make a difficult strategic choice about fortifying the city and sparked fresh grumbling among Russian commanders. Senior US and Western military officials reported that Ukrainian forces have begun operational preparations in advance of a highly anticipated counteroffensive against Russian troops. Before Ukraine launched a counteroffensive early last summer, similar airstrikes were used to set the stage in the country's southern and northern regions. These shaping operations may last for several days prior to the main portion of any planned Ukrainian offensive, according to a senior US military official. Since last July, Russia has failed to annex a Ukrainian city, but it has continued on into the eastern city despite suffering enormous losses. According to Ukraine's president, Zelensky, his country still needs a bit more time before initiating the counteroffensive in order to allow more of the Western military assistance that has been promised to enter the country. According to Zelensky, who asserted that they were arriving in waves, supplies that Ukraine is still awaiting include armoured vehicles, including tanks. It is possible to conduct shaping operations that confuse the opposition. Last summer, Kharkiv had little time to prepare for their offensive; it happened quickly. Around the city, there has been a battle of attrition for months, and at least three different Russian military influencers have reported that the scenario for Russian forces is getting worse. The largest bulge of Russian defences has only been breached by Ukrainian advances this week by a distance of about three miles, but the victory undid what Moscow's forces had laboriously built up over several months. On Friday, the military's General Staff revealed that Russia had launched six additional missile attacks. In an unexpected late-night post on its Telegram channel, the Russian Ministry of Defence denied claims that Ukrainian forces had breached parts of the front line close to the eastern city of Bakhmut. The Ukrainian military claims that Russian forces are approaching Bakhmut and have recently carried out a number of airstrikes in the area. But according to the General Staff, Ukrainian forces have managed to retake some ground by exploiting gaps in the Russian side to the south and west of the city.
With Zelenskyy thousands of kilometers away at the G7, back in Ukraine the head of Russia's Wagner mercenary group has claimed a breakthrough on the battlefield. Yevgeny Prigozhin claims in this video that his forces have fully captured the eastern city of Bakhmut. Ukraine's military has been quick to deny the ruined city has fallen. Kyiv says its troops are still defending their positions. Intense fighting is underway between Russian and Ukrainian forces in the east. Donetsk and Luhansk are the two regions where the battle is concentrated along the frontline. Authorities say an apparent theft incident escalated into a high-speed chase with three suspects that resulted in collisions and gunfire on August 1 in Oklahoma. The Sand Springs Police Department said the chase began when officers responded to a theft call at a Tractor supply store and the suspects allegedly fled. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol engaged when the chase continued onto a state highway. Pursuing officers performed a tactical vehicle intervention causing the suspect's vehicle to spin out. An officer fired a shot at the suspect's vehicle when the driver allegedly crashed into another officer's vehicle in an attempt to get away. Police say the suspects managed to escape and later hid in the woods after abandoning their vehicle. In a news conference Wednesday, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez explained how investigators dismantled a major gun trafficking ring. The ring was allegedly getting guns legally in South Carolina and then moving them 700 miles North to illegally sell them in the borough. Three men are behind bars and are collectively charged with more than a hundred counts of criminal sale of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon.
BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) - Law enforcement officers talked about the cooperation between them that led to the confiscation of 116 guns and drugs and the arrest of Alexey Gibson. Gibson was arrested on West McMillan Avenue on Feb. 1. During a search of his vehicle, police say they found 10 guns and marijuana and 100 grams of cocaine. Law enforcement officers say tips from the public led to Gibson's arrest. That arrest led to a search warrant executed by the Butler County Sheriffs Office BURN Unit (Butler Undercover Regional Narcotics) in Butler County. That's where 100 additional guns, ammo and ballistic vests were found. Some of them were stashed and ready to use as protection. The weapons included AK-47s, an Uzi, scope rifles, shotguns and revolvers. Sheriff Richard Jones said some of the confiscated guns have more firepower than what the officers have. "With the current trend of killing police officers and shooting at them, when we stop somebody and they come out with these, they have the advantage on us at that point. We come out with handguns on our side, we don't come out with a rifle." The law enforcement agents said Gibson was born in Ukraine. They believe he was in the U.S. legally but didn't know his current status. While Gibson currently faces state charges, Col. John from the Cincinnati Police says ATF task force officers will be involved because of the amount of firepower. Investigators have determined some of the guns were stolen.
